High Sky Children's Ranch offers emergency care for children ages 5-17 that are placed at the facility by The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services or the Juvenile Probation Department. Children at the emergency shelter can stay a maximum of 30 days after which an extension is needed by the agency placing the child.

During their stay at the shelter all educational, social, family and health needs will be met. An assessment of their needs will be completed that will include a psychological, medical and psychiatric evaluation if needed. The purpose of the assessment is to help provide information on children remaining in care to determine the level of services needed for success.

All staff working with the children will be trained in the Teaching Family Model which is a behavioral program that focuses on strengths and shaping new behaviors. The children will use a motivation system developed to teach kids new skills and provide continuous reinforcement to encourage positive behaviors. In addition therapeutic recreation will be provided throughout the week that may include basketball, art lessons, tennis, football, board games and group activities in the community.
